May begins with
The Other Place We Live – Explorations in Dreams and Hypnagogia, presented by
The Satellite Gallery on Broadway in downtown.
The exhibit, opening May 1st, showcases the fathomless curiosities of dreams, through mediums such as photography, collage, illustration, drawing, and encaustics. Featured artists include Dona Barnet, Hannah Danise, Nicole McConville, and René Treece Roberts, with exclusive works ranging from intimate to full-scale, wall-length sizes.
The works strive to awaken personal and collective experiences of the unconscious human mind.
More on the Featured Artists

Hannah Dansie: Originally from Northern California, Dansie studied fine art at Central Saint Martins University in London, UK where she graduated with a BFA (honors) degree in 2004, before moving to her current home in Asheville, NC. Her work explores narratives that recognize the urgency and conflict in our continuing attempts to connect to the world around us. With influences derived from iconoclasm, folklore, and the natural environment, her images are indications of how we try to bridge ourselves to others, and how these efforts are often episodes of compassion and discomfort. With her work she attempts to illustrate the ability to find commonalities and relationships between ourselves and our surroundings, that inevitably confirm our greater humanity and quest towards love.

Dona Barnet: Beginning as self-taught artist, Dona Barnet graduated UNCA Summa cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2012. Her drawings have been published in North Light Books, "Strokes of Genius: Best of Drawing" series. Her drawings, prints and mixed media works have often explored imagery and metaphors of birds, nests, and internal environments. Her studio is in the River Arts District in Asheville. She lives in Fairview.

Nicole McConville: The multi-layered encaustic and collage works of Nicole McConville aim to create emotive new worlds through the rediscovery of found objects. Her creative divinations—reminiscent of the space between waking and dreaming—reveal the sacred within the seemingly ordinary. Her work has been shown locally at The Satellite Gallery, PUMP Gallery, and The Upstairs Artspace. She has also shown in Rhode Island, Georgia, Oregon, and internationally in Germany and England.

René Treece Roberts. A fine art photographer and stop motion film maker, René Treece Roberts’ works surpass the notion of past, present, and future, and capture the timeless qualities of emotional depth and classical beauty. Her vast experience with film and darkroom printing lend cinematic inspiration to her pictures. Roberts digs deep into our Appalachian landscape to document and bring to life a dream world that's laden in texture, atmospheric lighting, and other worldly characters.
