The Asheville Area Arts Council Point of View Curator Program is now accepting proposal submissions until January 26, 2018. The program offers an opportunity for established and emerging artists in Buncombe County to curate exhibits within the Thom Robinson & Ray Griffin Exhibition Space. There are 11 5-week openings available for exhibitions. The AAAC invite artists to submit proposals for exhibitions that incorporate collaborations with other local artists. Selections are based upon artistic merit and involvement within the community. Curators utilize a thematic approach, invite artists to exhibit their work, and coordinate the exhibition installation, enabling the AAAC to encourage collaborations within the scope of traditional gallery practice and help develop artists as curators. Curators must be members of the Arts Council, annual individual memberships are $35.00. There is a $300.00 honorarium given to curators to assist with the curation process. The AAAC requires a 35% commission on any artwork sold through the gallery.

• Submission review completed by February 9, 2018
• Point of View Curators are announced by February 16, 2018
• The exhibitions calendar runs on a fiscal year cycle starting July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019
• $15 application fee

The application for submission can be found here.   The Asheville Area Arts Council also shares various artist opportunities that have recently been submitted to them including open calls for sculptors, photographers, dancers, crafters, as well as internships and artist residencies. They also send out a monthly email newsletter announcing opportunities, grants and exhibitions which is easy to sign up for. You can find more information here. The current exhibition at AAAC is Akira Satake's ceramic invitational, Intro — Emerging Ceramicists in Western North Carolina, running from December 1, 2017 – January 5, 2018.
