BMCM+AC and The Media Arts Project This annual fundraiser supports future programming for The Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center and The Media Arts Project, two organizations that work tirelessly to promote an appreciation and engagement with the arts in Asheville, and the greater WNC region. Held on the grounds of the former Black Mountain College (now Camp Rockmont at Lake Eden), The {Re}HAPPENING connects the rich history of the artists of Black Mountain College to contemporary art practice. BMCM+AC and The Media Arts Project combine their areas of expertise to provide both attendees and participants with a program that traces the lineage of influence stemming from this seminal institution, which still very much persists today. Award Winning Local and National Artists Now in its sixth year, {Re}HAPPENING 2015 builds upon the momentum of past years, furthering the program’s strength as a truly interdisciplinary event including 25 invited projects that relate directly to the experimental and rigorously conceptual history of Black Mountain College. Highlights of this year’s program include a multi-media dance performance by Asheville artists Adam Larsen and Janice Lancaster Larsen; a live video/clarinet performance by Charlotte, NC based collaborators Erik Waterkotte and Jessica Lindsay; an interactive, sound sculpture by Las Vegas artist David Sanchez Burr encouraging the creation and broadcast of a community soundtrack; and an on-site sound and microscopy lab culminating in a projection and performance by featured artist, Gene Felice, faculty member of The University of Maine Intermedia MFA Program. The John Cage Room and Moog Music A fortunate sequence of events this year led to the development “The John Cage Room”, a performance space dedicated to the legendary artist-composer and Black Mountain College faculty member.  Sponsored by Moog Music, Inc. and taking place in the North Lodge of Camp Rockmont, the Cage Room will include performances by local and national experimental musicians influenced by Cage. The evening’s lineup includes Grammy-nominated musician Aron Kallay; Head of the NY Theremin Society, Dorit Chrysler; Canadian composer, musician, and artist, Gordan Monahan; and Asheville-based musicians, Elisa Faires and Meg Mulhearn.
 Dorit Chrysler will also be offering theremin demos to {Re}HAPPENING attendees throughout the afternoon.  Scene from the Dining Hall, {Re}HAPPENING 2014 4. WNC Culinary Scene Sampling Each year, {Re}HAPPENING supplements the visual and performance based artworks with culinary creations from local chefs, restaurants and food trucks (Gypsy Queen will be on site this year).  Local beer and wine will also be available from Biltmore Winery, Wedge Brewing Co., and Highland Brewing, which has crafted a black IPA specifically for {Re}HAPPENING, called Abstract Black. To get the very best experience, consider purchasing the dinner ticket which allows admittance to the social hour including an appetizer prepared by Chef Elliot Moss as well as a craft, specialty drink by MG Road. Honor the Legacy of Black Mountain College The important historical contributions of the students and faculty of Black Mountain College should be celebrated and acknowledged by residents of the WNC region and visitors alike. The impact this institution had as both an educational model and arts laboratory influenced a generation of artists, many who are now passing along these modes of practice through teaching and working alongside our contemporary cohorts. This yearly event reinvigorates the greater WNC arts community by re-instilling the excitement once generated on these grounds, while simultaneously honoring the Black Mountain College legacy, and preserving its spirit.
