Moogfest just announced its full schedule, with details on venues, talks, workshops, and more. The four-day festival happens in Durham from May 19-22. It's a long weekend of the best and brightest in experimental music, technology, and the arts--areas that, year after year, it reveals are deeply interconnected.  New this year is the festival's special focus on creating encompassing sound experiences, in which a venue is paired specifically with the artists who will sound best there. Each venue will host music and talks focused on the themes of "Future Sound" and "Future Thought." Durham's Carolina Theatre, a gorgeous space that features vintage details, which will host experimental artists and "sound architects" including Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurie Anderson, and Dawn of Midi, is the stage for a showcase of avant garde and boundary-pushing artists and thinkers. Beyond the music shows, there will also be talks at the theatre. These will include conversations and presentations that will bridge the artistic and the academic and feature speakers like transhumanist Dr. Martine Rothblatt, GZA (who will also be doing a two-night residency), self-proclaimed cyborg Neil Harbisson, and Afrofuturist thinkers like Janelle Monae. The theatre will also host the festival's film series.  The Armory in Durham is another event space that will be transformed into a "dark and body-thumping dance club" featuring the best in electronica, house, disco (yes, disco), and techno for the weekend. Artists include The Orb, Robert Hood, and Bicep. During the daytime hours, the Armory is the site for the festival's amazing masterclasses, which will be taught by true masters of their fields like Ben Frost and Tim Hecker and Daniel Lanois & the Orb.  Other venues include The Pinhook, Motorco Amphitheatre, the PSI Theatre at the Durham Arts Council, the 21c Museum Hotel, Full Frame Theater, Duke University, and the American Tobacco Campus, which will be the site for pop-up art installations, performances, and other completely free events that you can attend without a festival pass.  The full lineup is dizzying and takes advantage of all that Durham has to offer. It's time to get your road-tripping outfit on, because a festival this good is not to be missed.
